The British army invades the Crimea

The British army invades the Crimea. Publicity about the poor administration of the army and inadequate provision for casualties undermined the coalition of Peelites, Whigs and Radicals under Lord Aberdeen. Aberdeen’s cabinet contained three future Liberal Prime Ministers – Lord Palmerston, Lord John Russell and William Ewart Gladstone. The factions brought together by Lord Aberdeen regrouped in 1859 to form the Liberal Party.
